Word Count: 1545

Level Achieved: Heroic

Project: DragonFriend (DF)

Summary: Having an existential crisis today, so I’m not giving a sample of the nonsense I banged out on the keyboard. It counts, but only technically. Going back to reading Animorphs.

#NullaDiesSineLinea: N/A

Editing: None.

Project: DragonFriend (DF)

Summary: Some more of the meeting/interview between Hagan and Mockrin, plus meeting Stegga (whom I picture being voiced by Dame Judi Dench). But a bunch of today was just Author Notes trying to figure out what I’m doing. Need some focus over here!

#NullaDiesSineLinea: Years spent watching travelers… told Hagan that this was a man with wealth and power who was not afraid to flaunt it. A man who demanded deference and wasn’t afraid to use force to get it… In other words, a bully. Hagan hated bullies.

Project: DragonFriend (DF); Second Unit Reviews (SUR)

Summary: Got started too late today and ran out of steam 3/4 of the way through. Got the start of Hagan’s introduction to Durick and Mockrin done. Added my SUR entry to the count to get closer. Tomorrow I really need to take a hard look at where I’m going and what I’m doing.

#NullaDiesSineLinea: “Hello,” said Hagan politely. “Where did you come from? Or were you already here?” He was fairly sure he’d been alone in the room, but who knew in a wizard’s university?

Editing: None.

Project: DragonFriend (DF)

Summary: I admit, I cheated a little bit today. I only wrote about 300 new words and the rest I took from a long-ago, early draft of the scene when Hagan meets his first dragon. I did this because it’s Election Day here in the US, I’m mentally and emotionally exhausted, and just don’t have the fortitude to do more than that tonight.

#NullaDiesSineLinea: He kept perfectly still as the swamp dragon slowly pulled itself out of the water onto a narrow sandbar on the near side of the river. It moved slowly, almost painfully, as if it was injured or utterly exhausted.

Editing: None.

Project: DragonFriend (DF)

Summary: Worked on a second potential opening that leads to retroactive story telling or works as the beginning of a chapter/section of the story. Focuses on Gremwing meeting Hagan from Gremwing’s POV.

#NullaDiesSineLinea: “I swear that no harm shall come to you,” the wizard said. “By the bones and blood of Great Mother Tiamat, I promise to provide shelter and safety, food and fire, company and conversation, unto the next turning of the moon.”

Editing: None.

Word Count: 1754

Level Achieved: Heroic

Project: DragonFriend (DF)

Summary: Worked on a potential intro that lays out Hagan’s upbringing and influences. My poor, faithful Dana Alphasmart is starting to die though… lost 45 minutes worth of work when it timed out from lack of typing. This will probably be her last NaNoWriMo.

#NullaDiesSineLinea: Hagan was three when he saw his first fairy, four for his first dwarvan company, and five when he saw an elf. This was not unusual…

Editing: None.

SPECIAL:  NaNoWriMo is back once again and because I’ve been so brain dead from the constant stress and anxiety of life during a pandemic, I decided to work on something lighter and more fun, a “fairy tale for grownups” as I’m referring to DragonFriend. It’s the story of a magical zoologist and his encounters with magical beasts and beings with their stories woven in throughout. The inspiration: a set of toys I got as a kid, combined with my various toy dragons which create the different “species.” Here’s hoping it will be fun and I can get something done.

Summary: Karen gets hit with a nasty illusion spell and has a talk over pancakes. Pretty good scene, I think.

#NullaDiesSineLinea: I was driving down the highway when the illusion hit.

Project: Spells in Sepia (SiS)

Summary: Had a bit of a brain-blast today so I got out an emotional scene with Karen, Giliad, and Kimika, plus figured out a possible inciting incident, which will lead to another emotional scene with Karen and Blanche. Didn’t get as much done word-count-wise, but I think the quality is a bit better today.

#NullaDiesSineLinea:

It turned out beautifully. I titled the piece, “Penitent to the Sea Goddess” and submitted it to an artistic photo magazine.

Little did I realize how much heartache and grief that single photograph would cause.

Editing: None.

Project: Spells in Sepia (SiS)

Summary: Day 4 is when you start realizing just how little you have prepped, how little you know, and, “Shit, can I really hold this together for another 26 days?!” Some description of the goblin market, a tiny pretty moment, and a long list of questions that are popping up because I am pantsing this so hard right now and I don’t know how it’s going to turn out. Really wish I didn’t have a day job to worry about this month because I really would like to keep all of my brain power focused on this, but even over the weekend my brain keeps wandering back to Doctor Who of all things…

#NullaDiesSineLinea: Oddly enough, a goblin market is both the most hazardous and yet the safest place for someone like me to be. At least during daylight hours. A Night Market is something else entirely.

Editing: None.

Word Count: 1700

Level Achieved: Heroric

Project: F-YA; SUR

Summary: Put my Dana beside my bed so the first thing I did when I crawled out of bed this morning was write. Granted, it was mostly just some thoughts on the Haliai, specifically Nen’s motivation and what happened to Mati and how that affects Roi, but at least my subconscious did some work. Whee! So that was about a third of today’s word count. Other two-thirds was a post for Second Unit Reivews on the four movies I’ve seen in the past seven days (How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, Captain Marvel, Shazam!, and earlier today for its 15th anniversary, Howl’s Moving Castle).

Editing: None.
