Project: DragonFriend (DF)

Summary: OMG YOU GUYS I WROTE PROSE TODAY ON THE THING I’M SUPPOSED TO BE WORKING ON! *weeps* Yeah, so I decided to move things up a bit and write about shit getting real as Hagan and Gremwing discover something is draining magic from the land and creatures in it.

#NullaDiesSineLinea:

Gremwing was taken aback by the sudden and unexpected venom in Hagan’s voice. “What makes you say that?”

“Because only a human wizard would be arrogant enough and stupid enough to think draining the land of magic would be a good idea.”

Project: Facebook

Summary: I’m running a virtual NaNoWriMo event for work and have been posting writing tips, memes, motivational pictures, etc for the last three weeks. Today I realized I could count them towards my word count (since they are NaNo related) and I plan on turning them into a Cat’s Cradle post as a kind of retrospective on the event. (Yes, I know I’m cheesing out again, but gods I’m tired and just trying to make it to 5pm tomorrow when I get off work.)

Project: DragonFriend (DF)

Summary: Got up a little earlier today and got off to a good start. I’m almost completely caught up to where I should be. I’ll need an extra 600 or so words to add to tomorrow’s usual count, but I should be back on track. First half of the day writing about what Sylla told Hagan about dragons and their hierarchies. Took a break for a walk, food, and got distracted by reading the second book of The Faded Sun Trilogy by C.J. Cherryh. One of those alien minds you have to tear yourself out of so you’re left reeling and wondering what you even are. Finally got a second wind in the evening and wrote about Hagan’s encounter with the pegasus Morning Star and her crippled colt.

#NullaDiesSineLinea: The bay colt kept trying to come up to them, but the foals would jeer and kick and run away, or flap their wings in his face. The silver-winged pegasus whinnied and the colt trotted out of the herd to her side. She draped one wing over him, nickering gently.

Summary: Bloody hell. Slept in because I just felt wretched so I didn’t get started writing until 10:30am. (Apparently chronic stress can create a persistent low-level fever which doesn’t register on a thermometer. A psychogenic fever. Which pretty much explains my adult life.) Proud to say that I did stay more or less on task until about 3 or 4pm and had to just stop because I was so sick of writing. Read the first book of The Faded Sun Trilogy by C.J. Cherryh, then returned with a cup of mint tea to write another page. I’ll be about 4,000 words behind tomorrow, but if I can get another Legendary day in, I’ll be in much better shape. All writing today was about Hagan and some of the events in his wizard school Ensorcell.

#NullaDiesSineLinea: Ensorcell was an amoral place of learning… Anything from herb-raising to necromancy could be studied and was taught. It seemed important to the teachers, including Hagan’s mentor Durick, that the students at least be exposed to all of these different types of magic.

Project: DragonFriend (DF); Second Unit Reviews (SUR)

Summary: Hoped to get more done today, but did decently enough. Still behind, but I’ll try to catch up this weekend. Got a chuck done with Hagan going down to the wizard school’s kitchens and finding an enslaved fae… Wrapped up the night with my weekly SUR entry.

#NullaDiesSineLinea: Hagan was tired of the bland fare that the wizards served for their meals. Everything was a variation of indefinable slop. Sometimes it was hardened into a bread-shape, sometimes it was vaguely meat-shaped, but most often it was slop-shaped.

Summary: I only imported about 500 words from a previous draft tonight. I needed a springboard, so I continued with Hagan going into the swamp and formally meeting Webwing, Scylla, and Gidraah.

#NullaDiesSineLinea:

She extended her heads closer, eyes burning. “But if you betray us, you won’t have to wait and see if a dragon curse will work on a human because I will kill you myself. Are we clear?”

“As crystal,” Hagan replied.

Project: SiS

Summary: Blanche’s history told from her point of view, plus a few scattered scene fragments and a metric ton of notes.

#NullaDiesSineLinea: The Folk craft perfection every time, but we’re quite happy with a shit-ton of “good enough.”

Editing: None.

SPECIAL: And that, my dears, is a wrap. It may not be pretty. It may not be coherent. But for the moment, it is done. If by “done” you mean I have a ton of material just floating around only loosely connected or completely disconnected from on another because I had no over-arching plot in mind. Apparently writing by the seat of my pants is not a very good thing for me, and while I entered the month with great excitement, I end on a low, drained note. (I also got far more distracted by The X-Files than I expected to be. Oops.) But hey, at least I did complete NaNoWriMo!

WORD COUNT FOR THE MONTH:

Word Count: 7823

Level Achieved: Legendary

Project: SiS

Summary: Crap-ton of random scenes, all disconnected from one another, exploring some early ideas from the project. It’s a mess and my brain is leaking out my ears and my fingers are falling off.

#NullaDiesSineLinea: To be honest, I’m always pissed at the MC, but there’s no sense taking it out on Giliad & Kimika, who are just doing their job and trying their best to get along with a moody human.

Editing: None.

Summary: The Kowloon Walled City and walking through the spirit world looking for clues.

#NullaDiesSineLinea: There’s a reason ghosts seem to float when they’re seen by the living. Moving through the spirit realm is like being immersed in a giant sea: stay immersed too long and you drown.

Project: SiS

Summary: Whoo-hoo! Got a ton done today, and all on target! Still behind overall, but closing the gap! Today was some more interactions between Blanche and Karen, both when they first meet and after a revelation, plus some descriptions of what a city looks like to an Attuned.

#NullaDiesSineLinea: Fun fact: you can scry people, but you can’t scry magical items. That’s why people always have to go on quests, because you can’t find the item with magic if it is magic itself.

Editing: None.
