Summary:  Hell yeah! Despite having 5,000 words to write in 48 hours, I managed to sneak in under the wire! Thankfully all of today’s writing focused on S&S: Samuel and Miko meeting the Vuorien and the Duenna, Amaris showing her temper, and a cute little exchange with Amaris, her maidservant, and her doctor. Snuck in a few pieces of lore about Mariner mythology and Vuorien names. (I love names. Names are so much fun.)

Editing:  None.

SPECIAL:  Sweet! Despite not feeling like working on Seahawks and Storms at all, I still managed to focus on it for about three-quarters of the month, or thereabouts. Still feel like the prose itself is mostly horrible, but like they say, you can’t edit a blank page… and I definitely don’t have blank pages anymore! (And holy crap, look at all those days on Legendary! Damn, girl!)

Summary:  Decent amount of work done, although not the 2,500 I was hoping to reach. But it’s late and I’ll just have to squeeze as much in as I can tomorrow. Got some written down about the landing and the Mariners seeing a very strange storm on the horizon…

Summary:  Did not do very well getting writing done today. I was on-topic, but none of it prose. More talking-to-myself plotting nonsense and a bit of fun trying to figure out who would be cast in the various roles. Most of my free time spent reading Thor comics and playing with my new pretty Chromebook (who I’ve decided to name “Saffron.”)

Editing:  None.

Summary:  Don’t know what the blazes is wrong with me, but I’m starting to fear that I’m getting sick. *groans* No, I can’t afford to get sick, damnit! Especially not with only 3 days left for NaNo! Anyway, I did get a bunch of writing done for the meeting between Samuel and Miko, but ended up having to take a slight detour back to Marvel (because Loki won’t freakin’ get out of my head GO AWAY I NEED TO WRITE… butbesuretocomebacklaterkthxbye.)

Summary:  Still felt crappy and groggy most of the day, but managed to get some writing done after watching Mutiny on the Bounty and making a fire in the fireplace. (Getting better at that…) I tried to describe the Eater, but didn’t do well. Had a bitching-session, then started doing more plotting for the early lives of Samuel and Amaris before they actually get married. (I want to establish who they are as people before they get hitched. No idea how much will stay.) Then I drifted into naming territory and started to work out how many ships are in the Mariner Fleet, what types, and what their names could be. (The only one I’m sure of is Samuel’s greatship the Amaranth. Everyone else is negotiable.)

Summary:  Best Black Friday ever. Stayed home all day in front of a cozy fire, eating leftovers from Thanksgiving, drinking tea (and stronger stuff), chilling with some epic Norse poetry (isn’t “dew of battle” the best description ever for blood?), and somehow managing to get done a crap-ton of writing on the Mariner’s crossing over the Maelstrom Mountains. Think the Clashing Rocks meets the sirens meets the Arctic ice floes. Fun, fun, fun, fun. (For me, the writer, not the characters.) Here’s an (unedited) snippet from today’s writing:

Samuel felt a chill as those great, dark eyes met his. Intelligence shown there, sentience, awareness. They were not bestial, cunning in the manner of wolves or filled with singular, all-encompassing purpose like a shark. But their intelligence was alien, so utterly and completely alien to human or Faastani perceptions. He wondered how Togo must have felt passing alone through this passage, surrounded by those cold, gleaming eyes. Suddenly he felt that the Wind People could see him, that they could see through the illusion and knew exactly what they were trying to do, and for some inexplicable reason were allowing them to pass anyway. They could kill us without even realizing it, he thought. Their world, their lives, their perceptions… they are nothing like ours. They aren’t dangerous because they are malevolent. They’re dangerous because they do not care.

Summary:  Started to write about a battle, but ground to a halt when I realized I had no idea what was actually going on, the purpose, motivations, or locations of the players. Wrote some notes trying to figure it out, but brain is too hazy from Thanksgiving dinner and hours of socializing to work well. At least something got done. Going to go curl up with a book or movie in front of the fireplace.

Summary:  Had another thought for a Cat’s Cradle entry, so wrote that down in the morning. This evening I worked on Samuel and Amaris discussing the Taavaryo, Samuel speaking with the Duenna about it, and a tiny bit about magical addiction.

Summary:  Yessss… Got my latest Cat’s Cradle entry done, although still behind on the Audio Editions. Also wrote about Samuel’s father, plus a little of Amaris’s interactions (in general) with the Mariner hunting ospreys and the Amaranth‘s austringer/falconer, Wrixon.

Editing:  None.
