Project: Second Unit Reviews (SUR)

Summary: You know you’re desperate not to work on something when you write a blog entry a week before it’s due. (Which is what I should have been doing this entire year with #OBFC, but there we are.) This one won’t be published until December but we’re in the home stretch! Only three more books after this one is published. And now I’m going to be early because I’m bloody exhausted.

Project: Second Unit Reviews (SUR)

Summary: I… needed a mental health day. I just could not bring myself to work on DF today, so I read today’s and next week’s books for my Obscure Books From Childhood blog series and wrote those. Yes, that means I’m behind, but I just needed a day to clean and read and even broke out Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic on my original Xbox because I just had a hankering for something familiar and I’ve actually never played through the game as a male (my two previous play-throughs were as a female) so this could be interesting. My male is named Nestor which means “returner, homecomer” in Greek… which I thought appropriate.

#NullaDiesSineLinea: You can read today’s #OBFC entry HERE on Second Unit Reviews.

Project: DragonFriend (DF); Second Unit Reviews (SUR)

Summary: Hoped to get more done today, but did decently enough. Still behind, but I’ll try to catch up this weekend. Got a chuck done with Hagan going down to the wizard school’s kitchens and finding an enslaved fae… Wrapped up the night with my weekly SUR entry.

#NullaDiesSineLinea: Hagan was tired of the bland fare that the wizards served for their meals. Everything was a variation of indefinable slop. Sometimes it was hardened into a bread-shape, sometimes it was vaguely meat-shaped, but most often it was slop-shaped.

Project: Spells in Sepia (SiS); SUR

Summary: Definitely sick today. Couldn’t go to my con and wasn’t in much mood for writing. Did get a little bit done on post-meeting-Jacqueline scene and some on why the MC need the Attuned. Highlight of the day was getting to watch my newly purchased DVD of the 1996 Neverwhere mini-series to get in the urban fantasy mood. Also read an X-Files book which helped too. About half of today’s word count was spent on then musing about how all the works of Neil Gaiman that I remember seeing the library seem to be disappearing, hence why I had to buy Neverwhere rather than just rent it.

#NullaDiesSineLinea: But I like having those records, those pictures of spells and barriers. It reminds me that I’m not crazy.

Project: F-YA; SUR

Summary: Put my Dana beside my bed so the first thing I did when I crawled out of bed this morning was write. Granted, it was mostly just some thoughts on the Haliai, specifically Nen’s motivation and what happened to Mati and how that affects Roi, but at least my subconscious did some work. Whee! So that was about a third of today’s word count. Other two-thirds was a post for Second Unit Reivews on the four movies I’ve seen in the past seven days (How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, Captain Marvel, Shazam!, and earlier today for its 15th anniversary, Howl’s Moving Castle).

Editing: None.

Project: Faylinn (F-YA); Second Unit Reviews (SUR)

Summary: Wrote at least parts of two scenes set in the Wern Swamp. Not all of the Ballobog are happy to see outsiders in their home. Also wrote the rough draft for a review of Voltron: Legendary Defender, which will hopefully be published in its final form tomorrow.

Editing: None.

SPECIAL:  Time for the 1st Edition of Camp NaNoWriMo for 2019! For April, I set my goal as 20,000 words and will be focusing on my YA fantasy novel, Faylinn, which I had actually begun work on last April, but stalled out for several months. The plot outline was more or less finished during March 2019, so I should be able to just go pick scenes to write and get a decent chunk done. Hopefully this will get at least half of the manuscript out of the way and can then be finished up during May or June. (Or I can use the 2nd Edition of Camp NaNo in July to finish up.) To kick off my writing, here’s a little treat: I always try to find music to help inspire scenes and/or character, but since anime has been a big influence on me since high school, I also try to find an “opening theme” and “closing theme” for each project. So, my opening theme for Faylinn is “FAKE LOVE” by the K-pop band BTS.

Summary: Almost finished Amnesia: Memories. Just one world/romantic interest left to explore. I know I’ll be up stupid late, but wanted to get SOMETHING accomplished, so wrote a preliminary entry for Second Unit Reviews on otome games in general and Amnesia: Memories in particular.

Editing: None.

SPECIAL:  Well, I got derailed by video games during the last week of NaNoWriMo, but still almost reached 37,000 words and the majority of that actually was on task with getting a rough draft of Pleasing the Sea out of the way. Still a ways to go, but I’m not displeased with the results.
